Join Aaron McCarthy and Karen Mason as they discover many of Victoria’s unknown Islands which are right on your doorstep. The new lifestyle travel series will show you where to go, what to do and how to best enjoy the islands that most of us never even knew about. Wednesday nights, 7pm on C31.

Victoria’s Island is repeated at 09.00am on Fridays and 08.30am on Saturday mornings. Previous episodes can also be viewed on the C31 website.

The All New 13 Part Lifestyle Travel Series Victoria’s Islands, featuring Aaron McCarthy and Karen Mason will be airing every Wednesday at 7pm on C31 from Dec 7.

Join us each week as we explore and discover the biggest, smallest, strangest, busiest and most secluded and unspoilt of them all. We’ll share with you where to go, what to do and how to best enjoy the islands that most of us never even knew about.

You know what they say – if you’re not committing a crime, you’re not having a good time? Do you ever get sick and tired of being a goodie two shoes all the time? Well Australia, it’s time to break free from the shackles of society and get back to your convict roots.

Here’s a few tips to get you started:

Change a Light Bulb

Funnily enough, unless you’re a licensed electrician, it’s illegal to change a lightbulb in Victoria. This doesn’t just apply to public buildings, either; it’s actually against the law to change the lightbulb in your own home.

Wear Your Pink Pants

It’s illegal to wear pink pants after noon on Sundays. What’s the deal with this? Were pink trousers only worn in churches? Was the idea to avoid offending churchgoers returning to their homes? Either way, find your best pair of hot pink short pants and strut the afternoon away like the hoodlum you are. 

Cross-Dress Without Straps

Like the pink pants one, this is likely to get you some strange looks. For men only: if you appear on the street in a “dress without straps”, you’re breaking the law. No restrictions apply to other items of women’s clothing, fortunately, so feel free to cross dress in anything with sleeves.

Presumably the early days of Melbourne were full of men walking around in dresses with straps – but take the straps off and you’d become a dangerous degenerate.

It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as theseitems are the  tools of a cat burgular.

Taxi Without Hay

 If you’re a cab driver, make sure you’ve got a bale of hay in the boot at all times. I believe this was from horse drawn coach  days?

When we first spoke with the team they were overcome by our beautiful film of Vaughan – a little boy who who is dying of cancer. We have since been awarded winner of the 2011 Short Film category by the Australian Video Producers Association for that film…a moment that we will treasure forever.

With Clint and his team, we dreamed of creating a film that not only shares the background of how Body Canvas came to be, but capture some key events that have inspired so many people.

I’ve just touched down in Perth in preparation for my next exciting adventure. Starting Monday I’ll be hitting the road to experience and film a 7 day Perth to Exmouth Safari with Adventure Tours Australia.  I’ll be taking an inside look at life on the road as a backpacker, meeting a new group of friends and exploring the beautiful blue oceans and pure white sands of the amazing Coral Coast.

 Here’s the itinerary:

Day 1 : Perth to Kalbarri

We start off heading north to Nambung National Park and explore the fascinating formations of the Pinnacles Desert. Our journey continues along coastal roads passing by seaside fishing towns until we arrive at some local sand dunes and get ready for a Sand boarding adrenaline hit to get the blood pumping! In the afternoon we pass through the major port of Geraldton, before reaching our overnight stop in the seaside resort town of Kalbarri.

Day 2 : Kalbarri to Shark Bay

It’s an early start this morning for a short drive to Murchison Gorge in the Kalbarri National Park. Here we explore Nature’s Window and Z-Bend Gorge which is an exhilarating 150 metre descent into the heart of the gorge. Afterwards we’ll be rewarded with a swim in the tranquil water pools. There’s also a chance to give abseiling a go. In the afternoon we head towards Monkey Mia and enter the Shark Bay World Heritage area. Along the way we stop at beautiful Shell Beach before reaching our overnight stop at Denham.

Day 3 : Shark Bay to Coral Bay

We hit the beach this morning and make our way to see the world famous Monkey Mia dolphins – camera’s will be on stand by ready for some great shots of these captivating mammals. From here, we head to Carnarvon with a stop at a banana plantation. From Carnarvon we finish the day by driving the highway to Coral Bay, the Jewel of the North.

Day 4 : Coral Bay and Exmouth

Today it’s time to explore as we discover the wonders of the Ningaloo Reef and its fantastic marine wildlife. Snorkelling, cruising on a glass bottom boat, quad bike tours or a joy flight over the reef are just some of the ways to check out this beautiful aquatic sanctuary. Late this afternoon we make the short trip to Exmouth.

Day 5 : Exmouth

Another day of freedom and relaxation! Today we’ll have the option to check out some of the terrific diving or tour around the area to experience great snorkelling and lazing on the beach at Turquoise Bay. We will also have the chance to take a short walk at Yardie Creek.

Days 6-7 : Exmouth to Perth

We hit the road at 6.30am to begin our trip back to Perth, staying overnight at Northbrook Farmstay for our last evening together. In the morning, it’s a short trip to the Principality of Hutt River, where we learn about Prince Leonard’s fascinating story and why he seceded from Australia. From here, our journey south towards Perth continues. Along the way we stop at Greenough Wildlife Park,  home to a python breeding centre where we’ll get friendly with a snakes and other native animals! We arrive back in Perth in the late afternoon.

On Sunday the 25^th of September I will be attending the EJ Whitten Poker Tournament. This is the first ever Poker Tournament I’ve played in however I have been taking in all the hot tips from International Pokernews.com Presenter Lynn Gilmartin at the recent Launch for the Mossgreen Gallery and Café. I won’t be disclosing tactics however I will say that my poker face training has been intense. Further details of the event below:

has been legendary. On Thursday, September 25 from 4.30pm at Crown, Tony will be hosting the second annual E.J. Whitten Foundation Charity Poker Tournament. It will be a $300 buy-in with $100 rebuys and great prizes up for grabs including a 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event seat.

The E.J. Whitten Foundation is dedicated to supporting Prostate Cancer Research and Awareness, the event gives everyone the opportunity to help in every step of the way, from research and prevention to diagnosis and treatment.

“Our help can change the lives of those affected by prostate cancer and help them find information, support and hope when they need it most,” Hachem, host and ambassador of the charity, said.

The night will boast a football flavour and include the glamour of a red carpet with celebrity guests and AFL players as well as fundraising activities and live entertainment, with crosses to the Nine Network’s AFL Footy Show. A celebrity player will be seated at each of the tables.
